Are you aspiring to gain admission into the University of Lagos (UNILAG)? Understanding how your aggregate score is calculated is key to planning and assessing your chances. UNILAG uses a 50:30:20 formula to compute candidates’ aggregate scores based on UTME, Post-UTME, and O’Level performance.
UNILAG Aggregate Score Breakdown
UNILAG uses a 50% JAMB + 30% Post-UTME + 20% O’Level formula to compute the aggregate score for admission into undergraduate programs.
1. JAMB Score (50%)
Divide your JAMB score by 8 to get your weighted score.
Example:
If you scored 320 in JAMB:
320 ÷ 8 = 40
2. Post-UTME Score (30%)
The Post-UTME exam is scored over 30 marks and tests candidates in Mathematics, English, and General Paper.
Use your Post-UTME score directly.
Example:
If you scored 25 out of 30, your score = 25
3. O’Level Result (20%)
UNILAG assesses five relevant subjects, with the following grading system:
- A1 = 4.0
- B2 = 3.6
- B3 = 3.2
- C4 = 2.8
- C5 = 2.4
- C6 = 2.0
For College of Medicine programs, the five relevant subjects are:
- English
- Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
Example (Medicine & Surgery):
- English – A1 = 4.0
- Mathematics – B2 = 3.6
- Biology – A1 = 4.0
- Chemistry – B3 = 3.2
- Physics – C4 = 2.8
Total O’Level Score = 4.0 + 3.6 + 4.0 + 3.2 + 2.8 = 17.6
Final Aggregate Score
Now, sum the three components:
- JAMB = 40
- Post-UTME = 25
- O’Level = 17.6
Total Aggregate = 40 + 25 + 17.6 = 82.6
Compare with Cut-Off Marks
In the 2024/2025 session, the merit cut-off for Medicine & Surgery was 81.525. So, a candidate with an aggregate of 82.6 would have exceeded the cut-off.
Note: Cut-off marks vary each year based on the overall performance of applicants and available admission slots.
Important Notes
- Minimum UTME Score: 200
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 16 years old by October 31, 2025
- O’Level Requirement: Five (5) credits in one sitting, including:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Direct Entry Candidates must also meet all O’Level requirements.
Final Tips
- Aim for a high JAMB score to boost your aggregate.
- Prepare well for the Post-UTME exam — it carries a significant 30%.
- Ensure your O’Level grades are strong, especially in the relevant subjects.
